Can you really use library centers to teach research?

Yes, absolutely!

This course teaches school librarians how to use library centers as a way to teach and assess research and inquiry skills at the elementary level, up to about 6th grade. Through research centers, students can learn and practice how to find information, use and evaluate resources, and cite their resources.

You can use library centers as a structure for most (or even all) of your library curriculum, including formal assessments if your students earn a “grade” for library class. This course for teacher-librarians will show you how!

In this course, you will:

  • Explore different ways to “do” library centers,
  • Learn to sustainably incorporate research & inquiry skills into your current library centers structure, and
  • Build routines and systems to make assessing students’ skills a lot easier.
