Poetry Tasting Activities and Library Centers for Grades 3-5

Want to introduce your students to poetry terms in a fun, interactive way? This picnic theme uses food, plates, and placemats to review poetry standards. This Poetry Picnic was created to introduce 3rd graders to poetry.

At 4 different work stations, students respond to questions on food-shaped papers (different foods at each station) that they glue on paper plates.

Materials are not editable, unless noted below.

At Cari’s (the creator’s) elementary school, she invited families to share these poetry learning centers with us, and she had a great time working together! If your teachers and students are intimidated by poetry, this is a great way to make it fun and engaging for them.

Cari also include directions, signs, printables, a parent invitation, and even photos of the Poetry Tasting. She held this event with 3rd grade students, and this resource has been updated to be used with third, fourth , and fifth grade students.
