Teach or review the author’s and illustrator’s job when making a book with these editable read-aloud activities for kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes!

The teacher-librarian reads aloud one of the 8 picture book recommendations, and after listening to the story, students check out books and complete one of the activities for the rest of library class.

This lesson has 48 total pages and slides, and includes:

  • Recommended books to read aloud and teach your students about what authors and illustrators do (1 page)

    • Activity #1 – Students draw a line from author/illustrator label to the name on the book cover, and write their jobs. (half-page, 2 per letter-size paper)
    • Activity #2 – Students write the names and jobs of the author and illustrator (half-page, 2 per letter-size paper)
    • Activity #3 – Students cut and paste the labels to an image of the book cover. (full page, letter-size paper)
    • The full-color version of the cut-and-paste activity can be laminated to reuse year after year.
