Students are used to adults deciding which apps and web tools they should use. Many either have apps pre-downloaded on personal devices, pre-determined webtools they can use on school devices, or they think that if they ask for it they will get it. This is called mindless consumption.
Deliberately teach students how app privacy policies are written, the information that is collected, and how it is used. Knowing how to read privacy policies empowers students to be informed consumers. They will make critical decisions about what to buy and why they think it’s worth buying.
Informed digital citizens know the tools they are using, how to find and access privacy policies, understand what information is collected and why, and if it is shared with others. Teaching students how to read app privacy policies prepares them for the real world. They gain skills that can be used in digital and analog situations.
You’ll love how engaged students will be with these activities! They are connected to the apps they’ll be researching.
