Teach students how mobile app descriptions are written and the type of information that is included. Knowing how to read information empowers students to be informed consumers. They will make critical decisions about what to buy and why they think it’s worth buying.

Students are used to adults deciding which apps and web tools they should use. Many either have apps pre-downloaded on personal devices, predetermined webtools they can use on school devices, or they think that if they ask for it they will get it. This is called mindless consumption.

Informed digital citizens know the tools they are using, the provided features, costs, applications, and their privacy rights. Teaching students how to read app descriptions prepares them for the real world. They gain skills that can be used in digital and analog situations.

You are going to love the high level of student engagement, as they think critically about mobile applications and make consumer-based decisions.
